Mamata Banerjee Expresses Grief Over Ashish Banerjees Passing, Highlights Political Pressures Impact on Mental Health

Kolkata, August 16: Former Chief Minister of West Bengal, Mamata Banerjee, has expressed profound sorrow over the passing of former minister and ex-Deputy Speaker Ashish Banerjee. She stated that his death deeply unsettles her. The mental and emotional pressures he faced in his final days have made this tragedy even more painful.

In a post on X, Mamata Banerjee noted that Ashish Banerjee dedicated a significant part of his life to teaching and social service. He was well-known for his humble nature and close ties with the people of Rampurhat and Birbhum.

She mentioned that Ashish Banerjee, who served as an MLA five times, consistently worked for the development of Rampurhat and accomplished numerous significant projects for the community. He also held the positions of former Deputy Speaker and Chairman of the Assembly.

Mamata Banerjee remarked that despite his long public service, Ashish Banerjee faced repeated defamation, false accusations, and constant pressure.

She stated, “The kind of harassment and mental pressure he endured compels us all to reflect on the human cost of ongoing political animosity.”

Earlier, on Sunday afternoon, West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari raised concerns about possible ‘blackmailing pressure’ behind Ashish Banerjee’s death, suggesting that this aspect should be investigated.

Suvendu Adhikari claimed that after the assembly elections, Ashish Banerjee stood against alleged injustices and corruption within his own party. He noted that Ashish Banerjee distanced himself from Mamata Banerjee and resigned from a committee she formed.

He expressed concerns that corrupt individuals within the Trinamool Congress may have intimidated or blackmailed him. Suvendu Adhikari also mentioned his amicable relationship with Ashish Banerjee despite political differences.

He assured that a thorough investigation would be conducted, including examining Ashish Banerjee’s suicide note and mobile phone.

Mamata Banerjee extended her condolences to Ashish Banerjee’s family, loved ones, former students, and countless admirers, stating that his absence will always be felt.
