The Make in India initiative marks 12 years, showcasing significant growth in electronics and mobile manufacturing across the country.

New Delhi, September 25 (Daily Kiran) : The ‘Make in India’ initiative, launched on September 25, 2014, has reached a significant milestone, celebrating 12 years of promoting large-scale manufacturing in the country. Designed to position India as a global hub for manufacturing, design, and innovation, the program has led to transformative changes across various sectors.

Since its inception, the initiative has driven remarkable growth in electronics production, which has surged from ₹1.9 lakh crore in 2014-15 to ₹13.11 lakh crore today. Mobile phone manufacturing, in particular, has seen a staggering increase, growing nearly 32 times from ₹18,900 crore to ₹6.3 lakh crore, making India the world’s second-largest mobile phone manufacturer by volume.

Over the past five years, the sector has grown at an average rate of 9.2 percent, with an annual turnover projected to reach ₹5,08,630 crore by 2025-26. Pharmaceutical exports during this period are expected to total ₹2,62,697 crore.

The domestic production of medical devices has also seen a notable increase, rising by 48.2 percent from ₹28,000 crore in 2019-20 to ₹41,500 crore in 2024-25.

Furthermore, Indian Railways manufactured 54,809 coaches between 2014 and 2024, with the average annual production increasing from less than 3,300 in 2004-14 to 5,481 during the recent decade. This production includes both locomotives and modern passenger coaches, with 1,674 locomotives produced in 2025-26.

According to government data, the manufacturing Gross Value Added (GVA) recorded a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 10.88 percent between 2022-23 and 2025-26, highlighting the rapid growth of India’s manufacturing capabilities under the ‘Make in India’ initiative.
