These devices were recovered not only from Jaunpur but also from other districts in the state, including Azamgarh, Varanasi, Prayagraj, Lucknow, Kanpur, Ballia, Pratapgarh, Bhadohi, and even from states like Delhi, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Jharkhand, Bihar, and Rajasthan. City SP Ayush Srivastava urged the public to report any lost mobile phones immediately at the nearest police station and file a complaint on the CEIR portal. He also advised citizens to remain vigilant against cyber crimes.
Regarding the case, SP Ayush Srivastava emphasized that combating cyber crime is a top priority for both the state and the district. In January and February, the team tracked and recovered over 100 mobile phones. In March alone, the district police managed to recover 240 mobile phones, which were returned to their original owners on Tuesday.
He noted that the value of these 240 mobile phones is around ₹55 lakhs, with devices from various manufacturers included in the recovery. The phones were traced from different locations, including various districts in Uttar Pradesh and states such as Delhi, Gujarat, Bihar, Maharashtra, and Jharkhand.
The success in recovering these phones was attributed to the CEIR portal and the promptness of individuals whose phones were lost. He urged everyone to keep their IMEI numbers safe and to register and track their mobile phones through the nearest police station’s cyber help desk and the CEIR portal.
He reiterated that any lost or stolen mobile phone can be recovered quickly. Notably, one of the 240 mobile phones was recovered within just 24 hours. The quicker individuals act, the faster the police can assist them.
