Mumbai, June 5: In a significant crackdown, police in Kanpur and Moradabad have apprehended two wanted criminals during separate encounters linked to serious offenses such as murder and firing. In Kanpur, a notorious criminal named Raju Kariya, involved in 38 criminal cases, was captured, while in Moradabad, the main suspect in a firing incident, Manish, was arrested following a police encounter. Both suspects were found in possession of firearms.
The encounter in Kanpur occurred in the Rail Bazaar area, where police engaged with a wanted criminal. Raju Kariya, 28, was shot in the leg during the confrontation and subsequently arrested. He hails from the Badshahi Naka area and has a long criminal record that includes charges of murder, theft, and gang-related activities.
According to police reports, on June 4, 2026, the Rail Bazaar police received a tip-off regarding a wanted suspect in a murder case. Acting on this information, the police initiated a checking operation in the area. When officers attempted to stop a suspicious individual, he opened fire on the police team.
In self-defense, the police retaliated, resulting in Kariya being shot in the leg. He was then taken into custody, and authorities recovered a .315 bore pistol, a cartridge, and a surgical blade from him.
During interrogation, Kariya confessed to the murder of HS Zahid Khunti on May 29. A case regarding this incident was filed at the Rail Bazaar police station on May 31. Following the encounter, the injured suspect was transported to a hospital. Police confirmed that he faces multiple charges, including murder and gang-related offenses, and further legal actions are underway.
In Moradabad, police revealed the arrest of Manish, the main suspect in a firing incident that occurred on June 1. This operation took place near the MDA office in New Moradabad, following a dispute between two groups over coconut trading. Although the conflict was initially resolved, one group later opened fire on the other.
SP City Kumar Ranvijay Singh stated, “The firing incident on June 1 involved a dispute between two groups over coconut business, which escalated into a fight. Despite a settlement, one group resorted to gunfire.”
During the investigation, police identified Manish as the main suspect. A late-night encounter ensued near the MDA office, leading to his arrest, along with the recovery of weapons. Legal proceedings are ongoing in this case.
