Major NCERT Fake Books Warehouse Raided in New Delhi, 5,011 Copies Seized, Owner Arrested

New Delhi, March 13: The Crime Branch’s Anti-Robbery and Snatching Cell conducted a raid in Shahbad Daulatpur village, uncovering a large warehouse of counterfeit NCERT books. Authorities seized a total of 5,011 fake books, spanning grades 1 to 12, and arrested the warehouse owner, Arvind Kumar.

According to Crime Branch officials, a tip-off received on March 12, 2026, indicated that a significant quantity of fake NCERT books was stored and sold from a warehouse in Shahbad Daulatpur. Following this information, a special team was formed under the guidance of Inspector Mangesh Tyagi and Robin Tyagi, with oversight from ACP Sanjay Kumar Nagpal.

The team executed the raid at the specified location, discovering numerous NCERT books in both Hindi and English. NCERT officials were called to the scene, who confirmed that the books were indeed counterfeit. Subsequently, police arrested Arvind Kumar and confiscated the 5,011 fake books.

An FIR has been registered at the Crime Branch station. Charges have been filed against the accused under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including 318(4), 336(3), and 340(2), as well as sections 63 and 65 of the Copyright Act of 1954 and sections 103 and 104 of the Trademark Act. The police are continuing their investigation into the matter.

The investigation revealed that Arvind Kumar is originally from Bihar and moved to Delhi in 2003, as his father worked selling newspapers in the city. He graduated from Hansraj College, Delhi University, and later pursued an MA from IGNOU. After failing to succeed in various competitive exams, he began dealing in counterfeit NCERT books in 2022. His father currently runs a stationery shop in the Madhuban Chowk area of Delhi.

Police noted that Arvind Kumar has previously been involved in similar cases. In 2020, a case was registered against him under section 63 of the Copyright Act at the North Rohini police station. Additionally, another case was filed in 2025 at the Samaypur Badli police station under sections 63 and 65 of the Copyright Act.

Authorities are now working to identify others involved in the printing, storage, and sale of these counterfeit NCERT books. The investigation is ongoing.
