Major Drug Bust on India-Myanmar Border: 23.72 Crore Methamphetamine Seized

Champhai, March 20: Security forces achieved a significant success near the India-Myanmar border in Champhai district, Mizoram. In a crackdown on narcotics, a joint team of Assam Rifles and Champhai police seized a large quantity of methamphetamine pills. The estimated value of these pills in the international market is approximately ₹23.72 crores.

According to officials, this operation was conducted near the sensitive Hmunhmelta Road, an area often associated with smuggling activities. Based on intelligence reports, security forces initiated a thorough search operation.

During the search, the team discovered an abandoned vehicle parked suspiciously at the location. Upon closer inspection, they found a substantial amount of methamphetamine hidden inside. A total of 7.907 kilograms of the drug was seized, marking one of the largest recoveries in the region in recent times.

Officials stated that the international market value of the seized methamphetamine is around ₹23.72 crores. This consignment was likely being trafficked into India through an international smuggling network, which was intercepted just in time.

Additionally, one vehicle was confiscated during the operation. However, no concrete information about the vehicle’s owner or the traffickers has emerged yet. Security forces are continuing their investigation and searching for other individuals connected to the network.

The seized narcotics and the vehicle have been handed over to the Champhai Excise and Narcotics Department for further legal action. Officials indicated that such operations in border areas will continue to combat drug trafficking effectively.

Authorities mentioned that they had received prior information about the smuggling. The seizure was made possible through a well-coordinated search operation. Investigations are ongoing to determine the intended destination of the methamphetamine pills.
