Silchar, April 22: In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking in Assam’s Barak Valley, Silchar Sadar Police have arrested two alleged traffickers and seized heroin valued at approximately ₹23 lakhs. Officials reported this development on Wednesday.

Acting on specific intelligence, a police team conducted a targeted operation in the Ramnagar Bypass area of Silchar. During this operation, authorities stopped a four-wheeler and conducted a thorough search of the vehicle.

The search revealed nearly 456 grams of heroin concealed in 39 soap boxes. According to police sources, the seized narcotic substance has an estimated market value of around ₹23 lakhs in the illegal drug trade.

The two accused have been identified as Fahim Ahmed and Hanif Ahmed Laskar. Preliminary investigations indicate that they were trafficking drugs from the neighboring state of Mizoram through Silchar for distribution to other parts of the country.
