Major Cyber Fraud Ring Busted in Jharkhand, Two Arrested Including a B.Tech Graduate
Police in Jharkhand have arrested two individuals linked to a cyber fraud ring, including a B.Tech graduate, for credit card scams.

Jamtara, October 26 (Daily Kiran) : Authorities in New Delhi have dismantled a significant cyber fraud operation originating from Jamtara, Jharkhand. The Shahdara Cyber Police arrested two suspects from Dhanbad, one of whom is a B.Tech graduate, in connection with a credit card scam.
According to police reports, the suspects posed as bank officials and exploited fake KYC verification processes to defraud over 50 individuals. They purchased expensive mobile phones worth millions through unauthorized credit card transactions.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Rajendra Prasad Meena stated that an e-FIR was registered at the Shahdara Cyber Police Station following a complaint by Taranjit Singh. The complainant revealed that fraudsters, impersonating HDFC Bank officials, obtained his credit card details under the pretext of updating KYC information. Subsequently, a mobile phone worth ₹139,999 was ordered and delivered to Jharkhand’s Jharia area.
In light of the serious nature of the case, Inspector Vijay Kumar led a special team, including Sub-Inspectors Shyam Bihari Sharan and Vivek Yadav. The police conducted an intensive four-day operation in Jharkhand.
Using the delivery personnel as a decoy, the police set a trap by arranging a fake mobile delivery at the same location. When the suspects arrived to collect the package, they were apprehended. The arrested individuals were identified as 24-year-old Aftab Ansari and 23-year-old Abdul Majid, both residents of Borwa village in Jamtara district. Police recovered three mobile phones from them, containing WhatsApp chats and other digital evidence.
Investigations revealed that the suspects ran fraudulent advertisements on social media platforms, offering assistance with credit card KYC updates. They collected personal information from victims who filled out online forms after clicking on these ads. The fraudsters then posed as bank officials during phone calls, particularly targeting individuals over 50, convincing them to share their card details via video calls. This led to the purchase of high-end phones from JioMart and Flipkart using OTPs.
According to police, the stolen phones were delivered to various locations in Jharkhand and West Bengal, far from Jamtara, and sold at lower prices in local markets with sealed packaging and receipts to avoid detection.
Aftab Ansari, being a B.Tech graduate, possesses technical skills that facilitated these operations. The police are currently investigating the gang’s other associates, the total amount defrauded, and connections to other cases.
