Gurudaspur, October 1 (Daily Kiran) : Punjab police achieved a significant victory against illegal arms trafficking in Gurudaspur on October 1, 2026. Authorities arrested four suspects linked to an interstate arms smuggling operation. During the operation, police confiscated seven advanced pistols and eight magazines.
Among the seized firearms were a Glock pistol and six .30 caliber pistols. The Punjab Police’s Director General shared details of the operation on social media, revealing that initial investigations indicated international connections within the racket.
Investigations revealed that the arrested individuals had direct contacts with handlers based in Dubai and the United States. One handler in Dubai was identified as the source for supplying weapons, while another in the U.S. was responsible for controlling further deliveries and the overall network. Under the direction of these foreign handlers, the suspects were accumulating illegal arms in Punjab.
An FIR has been filed under the Arms Act at the Kalanaur police station. Authorities are now conducting a thorough investigation into the entire network to confirm the backward and forward linkages and to apprehend additional individuals involved in the racket.
This operation is part of a broader campaign by Punjab police aimed at eradicating illegal firearms and gang culture in the state. Previously, the Amritsar Commissionerate police also achieved a significant breakthrough by dismantling three separate networks involved in drug trafficking and illegal arms supply. In that case, five suspects were arrested, leading to the recovery of 13 pistols, 22 live cartridges, and over three kilograms of heroin, with foreign handlers also implicated.
