New Delhi, May 7: Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Pawar has resigned from her Rajya Sabha seat. According to the Parliament bulletin, her resignation has been accepted. This confirmation came from the Vice President.
Sunetra Pawar met with Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan, with Parth Pawar also present. The Parliament bulletin states that Sunetra Ajit Pawar, an elected member representing Maharashtra, has officially resigned from the Rajya Sabha. The resignation was accepted by the Rajya Sabha Chairman on Wednesday.
On social media platform ‘X’, the Vice President noted that Sunetra Ajit Pawar submitted her resignation during her meeting at the Vice President’s residence. Her resignation is effective from May 6, as acknowledged by the Rajya Sabha Chairman.
Furthermore, Chairman C.P. Radhakrishnan extended his best wishes for her continued service to the nation and her success as Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister.
It is noteworthy that Sunetra Pawar won the Baramati seat in the assembly by-election with record votes after the passing of her husband, Ajit Pawar. This victory is now regarded as the largest margin of victory for any assembly candidate in India.
In the election, a total of 23 candidates contested, but none of the opponents surpassed 1,000 votes. Ajit Pawar was a sitting MLA from Baramati and had also won by a significant margin before his tragic death in a plane crash. Following this, Sunetra Pawar took on the responsibilities of the party and is currently serving as Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister.
Having secured her victory in the assembly by-election, it became necessary for her to resign from the Rajya Sabha. She has now submitted her resignation to the Vice President and Rajya Sabha Chairman in New Delhi, which has been accepted.
