Maharashtra: Sushma Andhare Appears Before Privileges Committee, Faces 22 Questions from Prasad Lad

Mumbai, May 12: Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sushma Andhare recently appeared before the Maharashtra Legislative Council’s Privileges Committee. During the session, she faced 22 questions posed by committee head Prasad Lad, which were recorded for review.

The inquiry stems from a satirical poem written by stand-up comedian Kunal Kamra in March 2025, targeting Eknath Shinde, which Andhare supported. In response, Praveen Darekar proposed a motion citing a violation of privileges.

Andhare stated she would not apologize and would accept whatever decision the committee reaches. Prasad Lad confirmed that evidence was presented by Andhare and that her responses would be scrutinized by the committee. He noted that she claimed not to have made any inappropriate remarks against Eknath Shinde. The committee will consider her potential apology separately.

Regarding Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent appeal for caution, Lad remarked, “The Prime Minister works with foresight. He has urged the public to refrain from purchasing gold to mitigate future challenges.”

In response to Rahul Gandhi’s criticism of the Prime Minister’s appeal as evidence of failure, Lad advised not to take Gandhi’s comments seriously.

Manisha Kayande, another committee member, mentioned that she had posed questions to Andhare, but she was unable to respond. The ongoing process will determine any potential consequences for Andhare. Kayande emphasized the importance of Modi’s appeal for saving petrol and diesel in light of the global situation, asserting that the Prime Minister’s vision has contributed to the nation’s development over the past decade.

MLC Anil Parab defended Andhare, stating that she clarified she had not made any comments about Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde but had referred to those who vandalized studios. He also highlighted that Shinde’s name was not mentioned in Kamra’s song.
