Mumbai, March 17: Maharashtra’s Food and Civil Supplies Minister Chhagan Bhujbal urged citizens on Monday not to worry about the supply of LPG. He assured that both the central and state governments are making every effort to ensure a smooth supply.
In his statement to the state legislative council, the minister clarified that there has been a slight increase in edible oil prices compared to the period before the conflict in the Middle East.
Bhujbal announced that priority sectors for the remaining commercial LPG supply have been identified. Hospitals, educational institutions, crematoriums, old age homes, and orphanages will receive 100% gas supply. Additionally, 70% gas supply is assured for defense, government sectors, railways, aviation, and police/jail canteens, while 50% supply is guaranteed for Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation canteens, the pharmaceutical industry, seed processing, and fisheries.
He mentioned that LPG production in refineries has been increased from 9,000 metric tons to 11,000 metric tons. Special committees and control rooms have been established at the district level. Regular meetings are being held with oil companies (BPCL, HPCL, IOC) and gas distributors. Instructions have been issued to resolve technical glitches in gas refill booking apps and missed call services. Police security has been ordered for the transportation and distribution of LPG. Oil companies currently have sufficient stock, and distribution is running smoothly.
According to the minister, the central government is responsible for the supply, regulation, and pricing of petroleum products across all states. In light of the war-like situation in the Middle East, the central government instructed oil companies on March 5, 2026, to supply LPG only for domestic use to ensure a steady fuel supply. As a result, the price of domestic LPG cylinders has been increased from ₹852.50 to ₹912.50 since March 7, 2026. Similarly, the price of commercial cylinders has risen from ₹1,720.50 to ₹1,835.00.
Minister Bhujbal stated that the state government has implemented several measures to ensure a smooth fuel supply and prevent black marketing.
