Mumbai, April 13: Maharashtra’s Governor and Chancellor of Universities, Jagdish Mukhi, emphasized the need for improvement in the national rankings of state universities. Currently, only one or two universities from Maharashtra are represented in these rankings, and this situation must change.
He noted that while cluster universities are relatively new, their affiliated colleges are well-established and reputable. Therefore, these universities should make substantial efforts to enhance their standings in national rankings.
The Governor spoke during a review meeting held at Lok Bhavan, which focused on the state’s four cluster universities. He highlighted the goal of a ‘Developed India’ and stressed the importance of completely eradicating tuberculosis (TB). He urged cluster universities to actively involve students in the ‘TB-Free India Campaign.’
To raise awareness, he suggested organizing poster competitions, jingles in Marathi and Hindi, and other innovative programs.
During the meeting, universities provided updates on the implementation of the National Education Policy, new courses, best practices, research projects, skill-based programs, student admissions, notable achievements, and collaborations with national and international institutions.
Meanwhile, Social Justice Minister Sanjay Shirsat announced that the deadline for submitting applications or representations regarding the sub-categorization of Scheduled Caste reservations has been extended to April 30.
This decision follows the submission of a report by a one-member committee chaired by Justice Anant Manohar Badar (Retired Judge, Patna High Court). The report was submitted to the government on March 16.
To facilitate further action on this report, the government established a high-level committee on April 10, chaired by the Chief Secretary. This committee is tasked with inviting objections and opinions, followed by hearings.
The extension aims to ensure that all relevant parties, organizations, and citizens have ample time to submit their views or objections regarding the committee’s findings via email. Interested individuals or groups are advised to submit their formal representations or applications through the official email portal.
This extension is intended to ensure a more inclusive and transparent review process before any final administrative decisions regarding the restructuring of Scheduled Caste reservations in Maharashtra.
