Maharashtra: Congress Leader Criticizes BJPs Rajya Sabha Candidate Announcement

Mumbai, March 4: Congress leader Hussain Dalwai has criticized the BJP’s announcement of its Rajya Sabha candidates. He remarked that Vinod Tawde and Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis do not get along. He suggested that orders came from Delhi, and they had to comply. In essence, they operate like a general secretary. He mentioned that Tawde was given a ticket, while Ramdas Athawale was also supposed to receive one. Dalwai stated that it is up to the party to decide who gets a ticket.

Regarding the Maha Vikas Aghadi, he noted that a resolution will be found concerning the candidates. The Congress party insists that they should be granted a Rajya Sabha seat, while the Shiv Sena (UBT) should contest for a Legislative Council seat. He questioned whether an alliance would break over a single seat. Dalwai further commented that Sharad Pawar remains silent on these issues.

On the government’s efforts to bring back Indians stranded in the Iran-Israel conflict, he said such actions are always necessary. He recalled that during VP Singh’s tenure, stranded individuals in Kuwait were repatriated. He emphasized that there is no need for self-congratulation in these matters, as it is a duty to assist those who have gone abroad for work. Many people depend on the foreign currency they send back home. If they are in distress, it is imperative to bring them back without seeking praise.

Regarding the upcoming World Cup semifinal between India and England at Wankhede Stadium and the final match in Ahmedabad, he expressed that cricket is not the only focus. He urged Marathi people to consider the implications. Dalwai confidently stated that the Indian team will perform well, as the players are in great form.

He asserted that cricket thrives in Mumbai, while he believes that people in Gujarat are more business-oriented. He questioned the benefit of holding the final match there, suggesting it should take place in Mumbai instead. He recalled that the last final match held there, attended by PM Modi, ended in defeat for India. He concluded that the final should be hosted at Wankhede Stadium.
