Mumbai, May 12: Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has announced a significant initiative for the state’s police personnel. The Maharashtra government has approved an advance amount of ₹1,768.08 crore for the construction of homes for 5,459 police officers.
This funding has been sanctioned based on proposals received by the Maharashtra State Police Housing and Welfare Corporation.
In a post on the social media platform X, Chief Minister Fadnavis emphasized the need for better housing for police officers who work tirelessly for the safety of the public. He has been committed to this cause from the beginning. Between 2014 and 2019, his government launched a substantial interest-subsidy housing scheme for police personnel. However, this initiative was halted during the Maha Vikas Aghadi government but has now been reinstated.
The Chief Minister stated that the welfare of the police force and providing better living conditions for their families is a priority for the government. This significant decision aligns with that goal.
In January 2026, the Maharashtra Cabinet also approved the Mumbai Police Housing Township Project. This ambitious initiative, estimated to cost around ₹20,000 crore, aims to construct 40,000 to 45,000 modern residential units for police personnel in Mumbai and its suburbs.
The project will develop housing across 75 different plots, covering approximately 50 million square feet. According to the financial framework of the plan, the state government will bear 30% of the total cost, while the remaining 70% will be raised through loans by the Maharashtra State Infrastructure Development Corporation (MSIDC). The government believes that these initiatives will provide police personnel and their families with safe, modern, and improved living facilities.
