Gwalior, March 25: In Madhya Pradesh, the harvesting of rabi crops such as wheat, chickpeas, mustard, and lentils has commenced. Chief Minister Mohan Yadav has urged farmers not to burn crop residue after harvesting, as this practice diminishes soil fertility.
Yadav announced that the state government has started providing happy seeder machines to beneficiaries for crop residue management. He added that farmers can sell this fodder to nearby gaushalas, allowing them to earn additional income alongside wheat production.
The happy seeder is a tractor-mounted, non-tillage agricultural machine that directly sows seeds into the remnants of the previous crop without burning them.
The Chief Minister also revealed plans to establish custom hiring centers at the assembly constituency level, ensuring farmers have timely access to machinery for harvesting their crops.
He assured that after the monsoon, farmers would receive 24-hour electricity for irrigation. Yadav acknowledged the relentless efforts of farmers in growing food for all, even in the face of rising temperatures. The state government is committed to ensuring the prosperity of farmers.
During a farmers’ conference held in Datia district of the Gwalior division, Yadav addressed a large gathering, encouraging farmers to adopt modern agricultural tools, expand livestock and aquaculture, and establish agriculture-based industries and food processing units to double their income.
He highlighted that several initiatives have been launched to support these efforts, enabling farmers to prepare fodder through machines under crop residue management, thus generating income from both wheat and straw.
Additionally, Yadav visited a farmer’s field in the Bhind area of Datia, where he rode a straw-cutting machine and engaged in discussions with the farmer about the machine and its benefits.
On this occasion, Yadav also laid the foundation stone for new development projects worth ₹62.23 crores for Datia district.
