LSU offensive coordinator Charlie Weis Jr. has firmly dismissed rumours linking him to the NFL, reaffirming his commitment to the LSU Tigers. Reports had suggested that the New York Giants showed interest in Weis following his successful stint with the Ole Miss Rebels.
An ESPN report on Sunday named Weis as a possible candidate for a position with the Giants’ coaching staff. This sparked concern in Baton Rouge, where Weis is expected to join head coach Lane Kiffin after the College Football Playoff run with Ole Miss.
On Monday, Weis clarified in an interview with On3’s Chris Low that he has no plans to leave college football for the NFL. “I’m fired up about finishing the job at Ole Miss and the future at LSU,” he stated.
Currently, Weis is juggling his duties by calling plays for Ole Miss while preparing for his upcoming role at LSU. After Ole Miss’ 39-34 victory over Georgia in the Sugar Bowl quarterfinal, Weis confirmed he will stay with the Rebels throughout their playoff journey. Several Ole Miss offensive players have praised his ability to manage both responsibilities effectively.
Although the NFL move seemed plausible given that Weis would reunite with Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart, the 2025 first-round draft pick, and follow a career path similar to his father, Charlie Weis Sr., a veteran NFL assistant, Weis Jr. remains focused on college football.
At present, Weis’ full attention is on leading sixth-seeded Ole Miss as they prepare to face the Miami Hurricanes in the College Football Playoff national semifinal Fiesta Bowl.
