New Delhi, October 13 (Daily Kiran) : N. Chandrasekaran, Chairman of Tata Sons, highlighted the necessity of patient capital for the semiconductor sector during his address at the Bloomberg New Economy Forum 2026 in New Delhi on October 13. He stressed that the focus should shift from short-term goals to a long-term vision, as chips are set to become foundational for the future.
Chandrasekaran pointed out that the world has faced challenges before, but the current situation is unique due to simultaneous crises involving geopolitical turmoil, rising metal prices, and supply chain disruptions. He stated, “If you design with the mindset that this is essential for India, humanity, and companies, you will move in the right direction. This does not mean everything will be easy.”
He also noted a significant increase in India’s electronics exports, which have surged from approximately $12 billion five years ago to $48 billion this year. Alongside ambition, he emphasized the importance of financial discipline, urging stakeholders to maintain a keen eye on their balance sheets to avoid recklessness.
Chandrasekaran warned that merely announcing a 2-nanometer chip would not suffice; Tata must adapt to market demands. He acknowledged the need for global partners, as India currently lacks access to all necessary technologies.
Furthermore, he disagreed with the notion that enhancing efficiency requires compromising on strength. Instead, he argued that building robust systems in a volatile environment is a true path to improving efficiency. He referenced the cyberattack on Jaguar Land Rover, which halted production for nearly six weeks, and cited supply issues, such as magnet shortages, that could disrupt vehicle manufacturing.
Despite these challenges, he assured that the group is on track to achieve double-digit growth while maintaining margins.
