Protest Leaders Detained in New Delhi Amid Multiple FIRs Following October 12 Demonstration

New Delhi, October 13 (Daily Kiran) : Delhi police have taken several protesters into custody, including prominent leaders Ashutosh Ranka and Sourav Das, at Jantar Mantar. The detentions followed a demonstration held on October 12, which has resulted in four FIRs being filed. These complaints cite violations under Section 163 of the BNS Act, among other charges.

Sources indicate that the FIRs were registered due to disturbances in the Connaught Place area, a location where a prohibition was already in effect. Two of the FIRs were filed at the Tilak Marg police station, while one each was lodged at the Mandir Marg and Barakhamba police stations.

In a video shared on Instagram, Sourav Das is seen alongside Ashutosh Ranka, who proclaims, “Knowledge Kumar’s resignation will also happen at Jantar Mantar.” Das can be seen holding a copy of the Constitution, while those detained in the police vehicle chanted slogans such as “Bharat Mata ki Jai” and “Jai Bhim.”

The protests in Delhi were organized by the India Block and several other organizations in response to issues related to Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and the voter list. Following the October 12 demonstration, police initiated action by filing these FIRs.

Authorities stated that the protests breached Section 163 of the BNS Act, which was in force in the area, prompting the arrests and subsequent FIRs.
