Lisa Ray Shares Heartfelt Thoughts on Home and Belonging

Mumbai, August 17: Actress Lisa Ray has opened up about a significant aspect of her life that resonates with many. After living in various cities, countries, and continents, her understanding of “home” has evolved dramatically. What was once seen as a permanent address is now a feeling that transcends four walls. For Lisa, home is a place where one can be themselves without fear or hesitation. The presence of her daughters adds to the special meaning of this feeling.

In a video shared on Instagram, Lisa expressed her thoughts on home, belonging, and feeling safe. She wrote, “Throughout my life, people have taught me that one should have a permanent place to call home. It is believed that being connected to a location brings stability and a sense of foundation. However, my experience has been entirely different. I started traveling at the age of 16, and over time, I became accustomed to exploring and deeply experiencing different places.”

She continued, “I prefer to experience the world rather than just capture it in photographs. Visiting various locations, understanding their atmosphere, and becoming part of those places for a while has been a significant part of my life. Perhaps that’s why, despite seeing so many parts of the world, I don’t have many travel photos. I have spent time in many places that felt like home at first glance. Conversely, there have been places where I felt temporary, even while living there. Through my experiences across different countries and continents, I have witnessed various facets of life and felt many changes within myself.”

Lisa emphasized, “The connection to a place is not solely about having your belongings or furniture there. For me, the true definition of home is where I feel the most comfortable. It’s a place where I don’t have to think about what to say, how to behave, or how to explain myself to others. Home can be a place or a person who wholeheartedly accepts every changing and evolving aspect of my personality.”

She further elaborated, “After so many years of constantly changing locations, feeling secure has become the ultimate luxury for me. Today, home can mean many different things. Sometimes a person can feel like home, or a familiar street in an unfamiliar city. The aroma of food cooking can evoke a sense of home, and even a book kept by the bedside can provide that same comfort.”

In her post, Lisa also mentioned her daughters, stating, “When my daughters are with me, that feeling is home for me. Those special moments when the noise within me suddenly quiets down, and I feel that the world is exactly where it should be, are what home means to me.”

When asked where she is from, Lisa admitted that it’s not an easy question for her to answer. “I am made up of many places, and my life has been influenced by even more. However, today Goa feels like home to me. It’s not because I have stopped traveling or changing locations, but because in Goa, I finally feel that I don’t need to keep moving forward all the time.”
