Jammu, February 19: Jammu and Kashmir‘s Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha, emphasized Prime Minister Narendra Modi‘s strong commitment to the safe and dignified return of Kashmiri Pandits. He stated that both the central government and the administration are dedicated to fulfilling this promise.

Sinha made these remarks during the launch of Professor Ashok Kaul’s book, “Kashmir: Nativity Regained,” held at Jammu University. The book narrates the painful story of the exodus of Kashmiri Pandits in 1989-90, shedding light on the terror, fear, and the lasting devastation caused by their uprooting from ancestral roots during those dark days.

He remarked, “Jammu and Kashmir has been undergoing profound changes since 2019. The conspiracy of enemies, which sought to ruin the dreams and destinies of our youth, has been decisively crushed. Through relentless efforts, the ancient glory of this land has been restored, and development has been accelerated. Soon, this land will be completely free from the curse of terrorism.”

Sinha praised Professor Kaul’s book as a commendable attempt to break the silence surrounding decades of truth. He saluted the indomitable courage of the Kashmiri Pandit community, noting that each displaced family has preserved the vibrant spark of Kashmir within them. Despite struggles and hardships, they have maintained their thoughts, spirituality, culture, language, and traditions. They have sought opportunities even in difficulties, achieving new heights of success.

He reminded attendees that in 2021, a Kashmiri Migrant web portal was launched to reclaim lands and homes occupied by terrorists. “One of the greatest sorrows in the world is becoming a stranger in one’s own land. The pain of the massacre of Kashmiri Pandits by terrorists in 1989-90 is so deep that even time has not healed it. The anguish of leaving homes overnight and being uprooted still pierces families like thorns,” he said.

The Lieutenant Governor targeted the ecosystem of terror, stating that attempts were made to suppress the truth, but we will never forget or forgive those terrorists and their supporters who spread terror and attacked the souls of generations. He emphasized that Pakistan-supported terrorists have also shed the blood of thousands of innocent Kashmiri Muslims. Many incidents are so heartbreaking that words falter when recounting them. Families affected since last year are beginning to receive justice, and efforts are underway to address their employment and other needs.

Following the abrogation of Article 370 in August 2019, a new sense of confidence has emerged among the younger generation of Kashmiri Pandits, allowing them to reclaim their roots without fear. Sinha noted that Professor Kaul’s book serves as a poignant reminder of the community’s resilience. This is a period of reconstruction, and Kashmiri Pandits are at the heart of Jammu and Kashmir‘s narrative.

The event was attended by Jammu University’s Vice Chancellor, Professor Umesh Rai, publisher Rajiv Jha, other professors, literary figures, students, and senior officials.
