Kumar Vishwas Speaks on the Displacement of Kashmiri Pandits: Peaceful People Were Made Homeless by Their Own

Mumbai, April 18: The violence against Kashmiri Pandits in the Kashmir Valley remains a poignant memory for many. Discussions about this issue continue to surface over time.

Since the release of the film “Dhurandhar,” conversations surrounding the genocide of Kashmiri Pandits have gained momentum. This is largely due to the film’s director, Aditya Dhar, being a Kashmiri Pandit himself. Recently, poet Kumar Vishwas shared his thoughts on Aditya Dhar and the pain experienced by Kashmiri Pandits during a podcast. Director Ashok Pandit shared a clip of Vishwas on his Instagram stories, expressing gratitude for his insights.

In the clip, Kumar Vishwas states, “Aditya Dhar is a displaced Kashmiri Pandit. Peaceful people living in this country had to abandon their homes due to political shamelessness. The entire nation has viewed this with intellectual apathy, as if it were mere propaganda, while governments acted like impotent bystanders.”

He further remarks, “I can accept that in ’47, the British were responsible, and people scattered. But who is to blame now? Imagine a person sitting at home, chanting prayers in the morning, and suddenly thugs demand, ‘Leave by morning, or we will kill you.’”

Kumar Vishwas highlighted that terrorists targeted government officials and judges, spreading terror in the streets. Yet, Delhi remained silent. Regardless of which government was in power, they all passively watched the spectacle unfold. He questioned, “Has anyone made a film about their camps in Jammu? What did those in Mumbai do when they faced issues? There has been no genuine attempt to understand the Kashmiri displacement.”

Ashok Pandit, also a Kashmiri Pandit, understands the plight of his community, knowing full well the massacres that occurred when they were driven out of Kashmir.
