Kolkata, 11 December (Daily Kiran) – Kolkata continues to experience cold weather even as there is a slight rise in the minimum temperature. The Meteorological Department reported that on Wednesday morning, the minimum temperature increased marginally to 15.8 degrees Celsius from Tuesday’s 15 degrees Celsius. However, this remains 0.8 degrees below the normal level.

With the start of December, the picnic season has also begun in the state. People are enjoying the winter with the mild morning sunshine and the cool evening chill.

Despite the slight temperature increase, the weather department has clarified that there is no immediate sign of the cold easing. Meteorologists predict that the chill will persist until at least 18 December, as northern winds continue to enter the region without interruption. This means there is no ‘speed breaker’ in the path of the cold wave. Forecasts also suggest a further drop in temperature on Thursday.

Most districts in South Bengal are expected to experience dense fog in the early mornings, with visibility improving as the day progresses. No major temperature fluctuations are expected, and the cool conditions will remain steady.

On Tuesday, Kolkata recorded a maximum temperature of 25.2 degrees Celsius, which was 2.6 degrees below normal. Humidity levels ranged from a minimum of 51 percent to a maximum of 91 percent.

In North Bengal, the cold effect is also distinctly felt. On Tuesday, Darjeeling recorded a minimum temperature of 6.6 degrees Celsius. A large number of tourists are currently enjoying the cool mountain air and the spectacular views of Kanchenjunga. The weather there is expected to remain clear, with light fog in the early morning and improving visibility throughout the day.
