Kolkata Police Implements Extensive Security for Dol Yatra and Holi Celebrations

Kolkata, March 3: Kolkata Police has established comprehensive security measures for the dual celebrations of Holi and Dol Yatra taking place on Tuesday and Wednesday.

According to police officials, 398 police checkpoints will be deployed across Kolkata on Dol Yatra day. Among these, 86 special checkpoints will be set up at crucial intersections and sensitive areas, including Khanna More, Park Circus Seven-Point Crossing, Shyambazar, and other key locations.

Each of the 86 special checkpoints will have six police personnel, while the remaining 312 checkpoints will have three officers each. The highest number of checkpoints (72 in total) will be located in the Kolkata port area. Additionally, 36 checkpoints will be stationed in both the southeast and southern suburban divisions.

To ensure safety along the banks of the Hooghly River, Disaster Management Group (DMG) teams will be deployed at 24 ghats along the riverfront. Each department of Kolkata Police will also have a dedicated DMG team on standby.

As part of a citywide monitoring plan, 62 Police Control Room (PCR) vans will patrol various areas. Motorcycle patrols will remain vigilant in narrow lanes and by-lanes to prevent any untoward incidents, mischief, or hooliganism during the festivities.

These stringent security measures have been implemented in light of the upcoming state assembly elections and the preparations for the festival of colors. Security has also been heightened in minority-dominated areas during the month of Ramadan.

In this context, Kolkata Police has taken significant steps to ensure the safety of women. Five ‘Pink Booths’ have been established throughout the city, operated entirely by female personnel and equipped with modern facilities. Special patrol vehicles will also be deployed at night, with female police officers patrolling from 8 PM to 2 AM to enhance safety and confidence among residents.

Officials have stated their commitment to ensuring a peaceful and incident-free celebration of the festivals.
