Kolkata Police Detain Man for Threatening Governor with Bomb Attack

Kolkata Police have taken a man into custody in connection with a bomb threat sent via email targeting Governor C.V. Ananda Bose. The individual detained has been identified as Subrata Dutta.

Authorities have not yet confirmed whether Subrata Dutta himself was the sender of the threatening emails. The email threat came to the attention of Raj Bhavan officials on Thursday night, stating that Governor Bose would be blown up. Given the seriousness of the threat, immediate steps were taken to strengthen the Governor’s security. Raj Bhavan officials quickly informed the police about the email.

An investigation was launched to trace the origin and motive behind the message. Following the inquiry, officers from the Hare Street Police Station detained Subrata, a senior citizen, on Friday. A senior Kolkata Police official stated, “A case has been registered against Subrata Dutta Roy (68) in connection with the bomb threat to the Governor. The accused has been taken into custody. The investigation is ongoing.”

The threatening message caused widespread alarm. Sources at Raj Bhavan revealed that Kolkata Police and CRPF are working together to ensure the Governor’s safety. Enhanced security measures have been implemented at Raj Bhavan. Late Thursday night, a high-level emergency security meeting was held among the top officials responsible for the Governor’s protection.

Governor Bose currently receives security under the ‘Z-plus’ category. Nevertheless, the threatening email has prompted officials to further bolster security arrangements. It is noted that receiving such threats is not new for the Governor, who has faced similar warnings multiple times in the past.
