Bengaluru, July 11: Karnataka’s Home Minister Priyank Kharge announced a significant victory for the state police in their fight against drugs. The Bengaluru police have dismantled an inter-state drug trafficking network, seizing banned substances valued at ₹30.43 crore.
Speaking to reporters, Kharge revealed that police conducted several coordinated operations, resulting in the confiscation of 29 kilograms of MDMA, 20 grams of cocaine, and 1,000 ecstasy tablets. The estimated value of the seized drugs is ₹30.43 crore, with a market value of approximately ₹60.86 crore.
A total of five cases have been registered in connection with these operations, leading to the arrest of eight individuals, including a foreign national.
In the first operation, conducted under the jurisdiction of the Hebbal police station in northern Bengaluru, authorities arrested a foreign national and seized 17.282 kilograms of MDMA, valued at ₹17.28 crore. Investigations are ongoing to trace the inter-state supply network linked to the accused.
In another operation, the Central Crime Branch’s anti-narcotics wing seized 6.718 kilograms of MDMA and 20 grams of cocaine, worth ₹7.15 crore. Four individuals were arrested, and investigators are probing the source of the drugs as well as the financial network behind the trafficking.
In a separate case registered at the Girinagar police station, officials confiscated 5 kilograms of MDMA and 1,000 ecstasy tablets, valued at ₹6 crore.
Kharge reiterated that the Karnataka government is implementing a strict ‘zero-tolerance’ policy against drugs and is committed to eradicating the ongoing drug trafficking networks in the state.
He emphasized that there will be no leniency towards those involved in the production, transportation, sale, or consumption of drugs. Police units across Karnataka are working in coordination and keeping a close watch on inter-state and international drug syndicates.
The Home Minister noted that the Bengaluru police have registered hundreds of drug-related cases in recent weeks, arresting numerous suspects and seizing drugs worth several crores, delivering repeated blows to organized drug networks.
Kharge also appealed to the public, especially parents and educational institutions, to support the police in the fight against drug abuse. He urged citizens to report any suspicious activities immediately to help make Karnataka a drug-free state.
