Karnataka Crowned Overall Champion at Khelo India Tribal Games 2026

Raipur, April 3: The inaugural edition of the Khelo India Tribal Games has concluded, showcasing the talents of nearly 3,800 athletes from 30 states and union territories across nine sports. Karnataka emerged as the overall champion, clinching a remarkable 23 gold medals, while Odisha topped the medal tally with a total of 57 medals.

On the final day, Jharkhand’s archer Komalika Bari delivered an outstanding performance, winning the gold medal in the women’s recurve event. Odisha’s Arjun Khara also secured gold in the men’s category. Despite strong competition, no team could prevent Karnataka from claiming the overall championship.

Karnataka’s stellar performance throughout the tournament saw them achieve 23 gold, 8 silver, and 7 bronze medals, securing first place. Odisha followed closely in second place with 21 gold, 15 silver, and 21 bronze medals, making them the only team to surpass 50 total medals with a grand total of 57. Jharkhand finished third with 16 gold, 8 silver, and 11 bronze medals.

The host state, Chhattisgarh, showcased the sporting talent within the tribal community, finishing in ninth place with 3 gold, 10 silver, and 6 bronze medals. Their last medal came in men’s football, where they faced a narrow 0-1 defeat against West Bengal in the finals.

Karnataka maintained a lead in the medal tally from day one, dominating swimming events with 15 gold, 5 silver, and 3 bronze medals. They added 5 gold medals in athletics and 3 in wrestling, ensuring that neither Odisha nor Jharkhand could match their performance.

Manikant L. from Karnataka was the standout athlete of the games, winning 8 gold and 1 silver medal. His teammate, Dhanish N., excelled in swimming, securing 5 gold and 1 silver medal. Among female competitors, Odisha’s swimmer Anjali Munda won five gold medals, while Karnataka’s Meghanjali secured four gold and two bronze medals.

Odisha was the only state to win at least one gold medal in all six sports, including eight in athletics and seven in swimming. Jharkhand also performed well, winning 9 gold medals in athletics, 4 in wrestling, and 3 in archery, along with medals in other disciplines.

A total of 25 states and union territories made their mark in the medal tally, with 20 states winning at least one gold medal. Maharashtra secured fourth place with 6 gold, 10 silver, and 4 bronze medals, while Arunachal Pradesh rounded out the top five with 6 gold, 1 silver, and 4 bronze medals.
