Karnataka Chief Ministers Position in Jeopardy Amidst Internal Congress Rebellion, Claims BJP Leader

Karnataka BJP chief accuses CM D.K. Shivakumar of losing support within Congress, highlighting farmer issues and government failures.

Bengaluru, October 20 (Daily Kiran) : Bengaluru – Karnataka BJP President B.Y. Vijayendra has raised concerns about Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar’s stability, suggesting that internal dissent within the ruling Congress party is threatening his position. During a press conference on Tuesday, Vijayendra alleged that Shivakumar is deflecting blame onto the central government out of desperation.

Vijayendra criticized the Congress government’s attempts to convene a multi-party meeting regarding issues faced by sugarcane farmers, stating that the BJP is not cooperating. He pointed out that growing dissatisfaction within the Congress ranks is causing instability for the Chief Minister.

The BJP leader noted ongoing controversies, including incidents related to a sting operation involving Congress members who are reportedly rebelling against Shivakumar. He emphasized that the Chief Minister’s repeated complaints against the center stem from this internal turmoil. Regarding a proposed delegation to Delhi, Vijayendra mentioned that the BJP would consult with opposition leaders before making any decisions.

Clarifying the BJP’s position, Vijayendra stated that the party intends to remain in opposition for the remaining year and a half of the government’s term, asserting that there is no plan to destabilize the Congress administration. He affirmed that the BJP respects the public mandate and is committed to its role as the opposition.

Expressing concern for farmers, Vijayendra highlighted the severe challenges faced by the agricultural community in Karnataka and across the nation. He prayed for assistance for farmers, noting that since the Congress took power, the situation has worsened. He criticized the government for its handling of economic issues and the growing dissatisfaction among the populace.

Vijayendra also pointed out the deteriorating condition of roads in Bengaluru and surrounding areas, attributing the increasing public discontent to the government’s failure in development projects, drought management, and welfare schemes. He criticized the government for not making significant progress in three and a half years and noted that disabled individuals are protesting for their pensions.

He accused the state government of neglecting the resolution of public issues, instead opting to blame the central government. Additionally, he condemned the Congress for creating confusion around the delimitation issue while the central government investigates it.

On drought management, Vijayendra stated that the state government has failed to provide adequate relief to affected individuals. He mentioned the current agitation by sugarcane farmers, stating that the NDA government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi has taken several measures to support them and the sugar industry.

He highlighted the implementation of a minimum support price (MSP), opportunities for ethanol production, and policies aimed at enhancing value addition in the sugar sector. He also noted financial assistance provided to this industry, asserting that these initiatives are the result of the NDA government’s efforts.

Vijayendra explained that the ongoing farmers’ protest is primarily due to alleged discrepancies in weighing their produce at sugar mills and injustices related to sugar recovery rates. He informed that Union Minister Prahlad Joshi has met with Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan to form a committee to investigate these issues, which is currently visiting Karnataka.

He concluded by stating that the central government is considering potential solutions, emphasizing that this issue extends beyond Karnataka and must take into account the interests of farmers nationwide and international market conditions.
