Karnataka BJP Accuses Congress of Misappropriating SC/ST Funds, Calls for Rahul Gandhis Response

Bengaluru, March 4: The Karnataka BJP has accused the state Congress government of misappropriating funds allocated under the Scheduled Caste Sub-Plan (SCSP) and Tribal Sub-Plan (TSP). They have called on Rahul Gandhi, the leader of the opposition in the Lok Sabha, to respond to these allegations.

R. Ashok, the leader of the opposition in the Karnataka Assembly, claimed that the state government has systematically diverted funds meant for SC/ST welfare over the past three budgets to support its guarantee schemes. He described this as a “planned loot” of resources intended for Dalit and tribal communities.

According to Ashok, out of the officially allocated ₹42,018 crore under the SCSP and TSP, approximately ₹35,000 crore has been used for implementing guarantee schemes, leaving only around ₹7,000 crore for targeted development programs. He asserted that nearly ₹39,000 crore designated for the welfare of Scheduled Castes and Tribes has been misused.

He further alleged that these legally mandated funds for education, health, and empowerment initiatives are being used as a “private piggy bank” to cover the Chief Minister’s alleged financial mismanagement.

Ashok criticized Rahul Gandhi, questioning why a leader who advocates for “equal rights for equal population” at the national level remains silent on this “historical injustice” occurring in Karnataka. He raised concerns about whether the alleged diversion of funds aligns with Congress’s commitment to equality and social justice.

The opposition leader also accused the Congress government of repeatedly targeting SC/ST allocations to continue its “freebie politics,” which he claims directly undermines the legal rights of Scheduled Castes and Tribes.

Ashok warned that over 70 organizations are prepared to protest on this issue. He demanded that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah provide clear assurances in the upcoming budget that any alleged diversion of SCSP and TSP funds will be halted.
