Patna, February 23: JD(U) leader Neeraj Kumar has emphasized the need for the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) administration to ensure that clashes between student groups do not occur. Speaking in Patna, Kumar stated that JNU is a part of our heritage, and political disputes within this legacy are detrimental. It is crucial to foster an environment of mutual understanding. While ideological differences may exist, conflicts should be avoided. The responsibility lies with the JNU administration to maintain control.
Regarding domestic violence against women, Kumar remarked that in places where democratic values are not upheld and policies are driven by religion, only injustice prevails. Any mistreatment of women under the guise of religion is entirely unacceptable. This is a new era for women’s empowerment, and no religion permits the humiliation of daughters, their exclusion from education, or discrimination against them.
Praveen Kumar Piyush, Secretary of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) unit at JNU, commented on the attack on ABVP students. He mentioned that a leftist organization had called for a march from the Sabarmati T-point to the residence of the JNU Vice-Chancellor last night. Following the march, approximately 400-500 masked individuals armed with hockey sticks, rods, sticks, knives, and stones entered the campus. They forcibly entered areas where students were studying in the reading room and allegedly pushed them out.
ABVP-affiliated student Vaibhav Meena described the incident as a planned attack by leftist groups. He noted that the crowd of around 400 masked individuals, many of whom had their faces covered and wore masks, entered the campus wielding sticks. Upon arrival, they began locking the school buildings. Students who protested were assaulted. Although police were present, they did not intervene.
