Jharkhands Health System Under Fire as BJP Criticizes Ministers Inaction

BJP accuses Jharkhands health minister of neglect as ambulance staff threaten indefinite strike over unpaid dues.

Ranchi, October 16 (Daily Kiran) : In Ranchi, the BJP has launched a scathing attack on the Jharkhand government regarding the ongoing protests by health service employees over their unmet demands. BJP spokesperson Ramakant Mahto accused Health Minister Dr. Irfan Ansari of neglecting the health system and called for his resignation on moral grounds.

Mahto highlighted the plight of around 2,000 drivers and emergency medical technicians associated with the 108 ambulance service, who are protesting due to unpaid dues since July 2026. This situation, he noted, poses a serious threat to the operation of approximately 500 ambulances in the state. The workers have warned of an indefinite strike starting October 21 if their demands are not addressed.

“Ambulance services are crucial for emergency health care,” Mahto stated, emphasizing the potential risks to patients if these services are disrupted. He questioned what actions the health department has taken in response to the employees’ complaints about delayed payments.

The BJP spokesperson urged the government to ensure overdue payments are made and to hold the responsible agency accountable. In addition to their pending salaries, ambulance staff are also demanding resolution of issues related to EPF, ESIC, overtime, gratuity, minimum wages, and the reinstatement of dismissed employees. According to Mahto, the government must address these matters promptly to prevent any impact on emergency services.

Furthermore, Mahto expressed support for the demands of doctors, noting that ten medical organizations in the state have united to protest. The physicians are advocating for the implementation of the Medical Protection Act, improved safety measures, Dynamic Assured Career Progression (DACP), regular appointments, and solutions to service-related issues.

Doctors plan to wear black badges in protest until October 20, followed by symbolic demonstrations on October 21. If their demands remain unmet, they threaten to cease work starting October 22. Mahto stressed that it is the government’s responsibility to ensure the safety and dignified working conditions for doctors and other health workers. He called for adequate staffing, necessary medications, and improved health services, especially in rural areas.

The BJP spokesperson demanded that the health minister clarify the status of the ambulance workers’ and doctors’ demands and present a concrete plan for resolution. He reiterated that the minister should resign on moral grounds for the ongoing issues plaguing health services.
