Jharkhand: Man Arrested for Killing Live-in Partner with Axe in Gumla

Gumla, 2 January. A tragic incident related to a live-in relationship has come to light in Gumla district of Jharkhand, where a man brutally killed his partner by attacking her with an axe.

The incident took place in the Amti Pani area under Gurdari police station. The accused reportedly struck the young woman multiple times on her body, dismembered the body into two parts, and even removed one of her eyes. The deceased has been identified as 19-year-old Asikha Kumari, also known as Pooja, while the accused is named Budheswar Asur.

According to police, both belong to the tribal community and were living together in a live-in relationship. Preliminary investigations reveal that the couple had gone to the forest to collect firewood, where a dispute arose between them. Police sources said during the argument in the forest, Budheswar lost control and attacked Asikha repeatedly with the axe he was carrying.

Due to the severe injuries, the woman died on the spot. The accused did not flee after committing the crime but remained at the scene. Upon receiving information, the Gurdari police immediately reached the spot, took custody of the body for post-mortem, and arrested Budheswar Asur on the spot.

During interrogation, the accused admitted to the murder. Police have also recovered the axe used in the crime. Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Suresh Prasad Yadav stated that the incident happened on Thursday evening and the police are investigating all angles. Detailed questioning of the accused is underway to clarify the exact motive behind the killing. While the case currently appears to be a result of a personal dispute, other aspects are also being examined.
