Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren Immerses Mothers Ashes in Sacred Rarappa Confluence

Hemant Soren bids farewell to his mother by immersing her ashes in the sacred waters of Rarappa, honoring tradition and community.

Ranchi, October 19 (Daily Kiran) : Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren held a poignant ceremony on Monday, immersing the ashes of his late mother, Roopi Soren, in the sacred confluence of the Damodar and Bhairavi rivers in Ramgarh district. This ritual, conducted with reverence, marked the completion of traditional rites associated with honoring the departed soul.

During the ceremony, Soren appeared emotional as he reflected on his mother’s life. After the rituals, he distributed clothing to local villagers in need. He had brought his mother’s ashes from their ancestral village of Nemra, located in the Gola block, to the revered site near the famous Maa Chhinnamastika temple.

The immersion took place at the Jadang Baha Tupunai Ghat, where the ancient cultural and religious traditions of the Santhal community were meticulously observed. The rites were led by Santhal religious leader Paragana Baba Jogeshwar Soren, with contributions from knowledgeable figures in Santhal customs, including Majhi Baba Binde Soren, Lugu Godait, Surendra Tudu, Paranik Baba Mahavir Murmu, Somay Tudu, and Jeetlal Murmu.

Family members and close relatives of the Chief Minister were present, joining in prayers for the peace of the departed soul. Following the completion of the immersion and traditional rituals, Hemant Soren continued his community outreach by distributing clothes to those gathered at the ghat.

Roopi Soren passed away on October 7, 2026, in a hospital in Ranchi. Her last rites were performed in their ancestral village of Nemra, where a traditional memorial feast and tribute ceremony took place on October 18.
