Mumbai, May 11: Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently urged citizens to refrain from purchasing gold for one year during an event in Secunderabad, Telangana. His appeal has sparked widespread discussion across the country. In Mumbai, jeweler Kumar Jain and customers expressed their willingness to comply for the nation’s benefit.
Kumar Jain stated, “India imports 8-9 tons of gold, which must be paid for in dollars. Currently, the dollar has reached 97 rupees. Therefore, I urge customers to buy only as much jewelry as necessary for weddings. While the Prime Minister’s appeal may hurt our business, we are ready to endure this for the country. Reducing the use of petrol and diesel vehicles will save money and improve the economic situation.”
A jeweler remarked, “Given the current global political climate, Prime Minister Modi’s appeal is entirely appropriate. The Indian rupee has been declining for some time, making this step very wise. Although there will be losses from curbing gold purchases, it is essential for national interest.”
A young woman shopping for jewelry said, “I agree with Prime Minister Modi’s appeal, but with a wedding at home, I must buy gold. I will purchase jewelry within my budget.”
Another woman added, “I support the Prime Minister’s message, but if necessary, I will buy gold jewelry. With a wedding at home, I will buy only essential pieces. Gold prices are high now, so it makes sense to heed the Prime Minister’s advice. When prices drop, I will buy more jewelry.”
A woman shopping for jewelry also expressed her agreement with the Prime Minister. “I am buying necessary jewelry for a wedding in my family. Everyone should support the government.”
Given the ongoing conflict and rising gold prices, I concur with Prime Minister Modi’s suggestion to buy gold jewelry only when necessary. Reducing private vehicle use is advisable; it will improve the situation. I believe everyone should pay attention to the Prime Minister’s appeal.”
