Washington, March 19: In a recent speech delivered in Michigan, U.S. Vice President JD Vance defended President Donald Trump’s economic policies. He stated that tax cuts, deregulation, and a tough trade stance are revitalizing the manufacturing sector. Vance also acknowledged that rising fuel prices, driven by tensions in the Middle East, are creating short-term pressures.
Addressing employees at Engineering Design Services Incorporated in Auburn Hills, Michigan, Vance framed the administration’s policies as efforts to rebuild domestic industries after years of factory closures and job losses.
“We were tired of sending American jobs overseas. We were tired of outsourcing American industry. We will manufacture right here in Michigan, in our country, in the United States, and we have done just that,” he asserted.
Sunny Reddy, a Republican leader of Indian descent, welcomed Vance at the event.
The speech highlighted how the Trump administration is presenting its economic achievements, emphasizing increased domestic production, lower taxes, fewer regulations, and proposed tariffs on trading partners accused of profiting at the expense of American workers.
Vance noted that since Trump’s presidency, over 2,000 manufacturing jobs have been added in Michigan. He pointed to a significant revival of the state’s industrial framework, which includes engineering firms, robotics, and automobile manufacturing.
He mentioned that recent tax changes have put more money in consumers’ hands, allowing businesses to hire and invest. “The average American’s take-home pay has increased by approximately $1,400,” he stated, while also acknowledging that many families are still recovering from the inflation shocks of the Biden administration.
The Vice President particularly emphasized the auto industry, a key component of Michigan’s economy, which is also crucial globally due to its connections with supply chains, trade, and technological advancements.
He criticized the previous administration for imposing excessive regulations on automakers and claimed that Trump has reversed this trend.
“We believe you should have the freedom to drive any car you choose in the United States,” he remarked, hinting at the administration’s stance against the rapid adoption of electric vehicles.
Vance’s comments also addressed the issue of energy prices, which hold global significance. When asked about rising gasoline prices amid the Iran crisis and threats to ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz, Vance stated that the administration believes this increase is temporary.
He acknowledged that rising gas prices are causing difficulties for people but reiterated that it is a temporary fluctuation.
To alleviate prices, he mentioned that Washington has released petroleum reserves in collaboration with allies and indicated that further actions may be announced soon.
