Mumbai: Versatile actor Javed Jaffrey, known for his impactful presence in films and television shows, recently shared insights about his career while preparing for his upcoming film ‘Mayasabha’. He recalled the motivation behind launching the dance reality show ‘Boogie Woogie’, emphasising that it was more than just entertainment—it was a platform to showcase India’s genuine talent.
In a conversation, Javed Jaffrey said, “The idea behind ‘Boogie Woogie’ was to explore India and witness real talent. I have seen the entire country. On stage, you see families, mindsets, poverty, wealth, and hard work. That is the true India.”
He also talked about his experience with the iconic Japanese game show ‘Takeshi’s Castle’, where he served as the voiceover artist. Despite the modest pay, Jaffrey expressed that the joy of the show, especially for children, made the work worthwhile.
“The payment was very low, but I did it because kids enjoyed it, and I enjoyed it too. Many artistic works are done for satisfaction rather than money. When you don’t have the pressure of managing a household, you tend to value such work more,” he shared.
Discussing his responsibilities as an actor, Jaffrey highlighted the importance of respecting the writer and director’s efforts. He explained that actors have limited scope to make changes and must honour the creative vision.
“Writers spend years crafting a script. It’s wrong to say you can change it in a day. The director creates an entire world, and the actor cannot override that. I do offer suggestions if I can add something new, but I never deviate from the track,” he added.
Jaffrey’s upcoming film ‘Mayasabha’ is set to release on 30 January. Known for his diverse roles spanning comedy to serious genres, Jaffrey will present a fresh style in this film. His career extends across films, television, dance shows, and voice-over work.
