Japan Holds Netherlands to a 2-2 Draw in FIFA World Cup Clash

New Delhi, June 15: In a thrilling encounter at the FIFA World Cup 2026, Japan managed to secure a 2-2 draw against the Netherlands in their Group F match. A crucial goal by Daichi Kamada in the 88th minute saved Japan from defeat.

The match began with the Netherlands dominating Japan’s defense. They launched several attacks, but Japan’s goalkeeper, Gion Suzuki, made impressive saves. Despite their efforts, the Netherlands failed to break through Japan’s defense in the first half, resulting in a scoreless tie.

As the second half commenced, the Netherlands intensified their offensive strategy. Their efforts paid off quickly, as captain Virgil van Dijk scored a brilliant header from a free kick by Ryan Gravenberch in the 50th minute, giving the Netherlands a 1-0 lead. However, Japan responded swiftly. In the 57th minute, Takefusa Kubo executed a fantastic move, passing the ball to Keito Nakamura, who scored to level the match at 1-1.

The Netherlands continued to apply pressure and regained the lead in the 64th minute. Gravenberch assisted once again, passing to Chrisensio Summerville, who curled a stunning shot past Japan’s goalkeeper, putting the Netherlands ahead 2-1.

With the Netherlands seemingly on track for victory, the match approached its final moments. However, in the 88th minute, Japan earned a corner kick. Koji Ogawa’s shot found Daichi Kamada, who skillfully directed the ball into the net, equalizing the score at 2-2. No further goals were scored, and both teams settled for a point each.
