Srinagar, February 17: The Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) of Jammu and Kashmir made a significant breakthrough on Tuesday by arresting a fugitive from Maharashtra. An official statement has been released regarding this operation.
The agency reported that during the investigation of an FIR filed under the NDPS Act at the Jammu ANTF police station, they achieved a major success. After persistent efforts, the ANTF apprehended the fugitive, identified as Arif Ibrahim Syed, who resides in Suraj Apartment, Shadi Mahal, Insha Nagar, Mumbra (Thane, Maharashtra). He was wanted as a co-accused in the case.
According to the investigation agency, the accused had been evading arrest for the past two to three years. The investigation also revealed his involvement in the narcotics supply chain. Arrest warrants were issued by the Jammu court under Section 24 of the Police Act to ensure the accused’s capture and subsequent punishment under the law.
After receiving specific information about his whereabouts, a special team from ANTF Jammu traveled to Mumbra, Maharashtra. With the active assistance and coordination of the local NDPS police team, the accused was tracked and arrested on February 14 following close surveillance.
Post-arrest, the accused was presented in the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) court in Thane, where he was remanded to police custody as per legal procedures.
The ANTF stated that Syed’s arrest is a significant step towards dismantling the interstate narcotics network linked to this case. The investigation is ongoing to uncover other connections within this network and identify additional suspects involved in drug trafficking.
The ANTF reiterated its commitment to combat drug trafficking and ensure that all offenders, regardless of their location, face justice.
