Jerusalem, April 21: Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz issued a stern warning on Tuesday. He stated that if the Lebanese government continues to fail in fulfilling its commitments under the ceasefire agreement, the Israeli military will respond with full force.
During a national Memorial Day ceremony held at Mount Herzl in Jerusalem, Katz emphasized that the ultimate goal of Israel’s operations in Lebanon is to disarm Hezbollah. He aims to eliminate threats to northern Israeli communities through a combination of military and political strategies.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) reported on Tuesday that terrorists violated ceasefire conditions by approaching IDF soldiers within the Forward Defense Area. These individuals had reached the regions of Bint Jbeil and Litani.
In response to this threat, the IDF launched an attack, resulting in fatalities among the assailants. The Times of Israel noted that several Hezbollah operatives were spotted near the Litani River. Shortly after their identification, the Israeli Air Force (IAF) executed an attack, killing them.
Meanwhile, Lebanon’s National News Agency quoted President Joseph Aoun on Tuesday, stating that ongoing negotiations aimed at ending hostilities do not equate to surrender. Instead, they serve as a means to resolve conflicts.
Aoun made these remarks during a meeting with a delegation of MPs and local municipal leaders from the Jezzine district at the Baabda Palace. He asserted, “Negotiation does not mean capitulation or submission; its purpose is to solve problems.” He stressed the need for the war-weary Lebanese people to “stand with their country.”
He also highlighted that the decision to engage in dialogue is tied to a firm commitment to protect rights. Aoun emphasized the importance of coordination among the Lebanese army, security forces, municipalities, and residents to maintain stability, while also noting the efforts of international parties and humanitarian organizations to assist the suffering population in the south.
