Tehran, May 10: Tensions in the Strait of Hormuz have escalated once again as the United States and Iran continue their attacks on tankers. Recently, the US targeted an Iranian tanker and vessel, prompting a warning from the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). The IRGC stated that any assault on Iranian oil tankers and commercial ships would be met with significant retaliatory strikes against US military bases and enemy vessels in the region.
Clashes between Iran and the US occurred sporadically around the Strait on Thursday and Friday, leading the IRGC Navy to issue this warning on the social media platform X.
According to news agency Xinhua, Iran has maintained control over the Strait since the attacks by the US and Israel on February 28. Iran has barred the passage of Israeli and US vessels.
In response, the US has imposed a naval blockade in the Strait, hindering the transit of ships coming to and from Iranian ports. In recent days, the US military has attacked several Iranian vessels and oil tankers.
In another post on X, the IRGC’s aerospace division claimed that its missiles and drones have targeted US assets and attacking enemy ships in the area, stating, “We are waiting for the order to fire.”
Meanwhile, earlier on Friday, US President Donald Trump expressed hope for a message from Iran as questions linger over the pace of nuclear negotiations.
When asked if Tehran was deliberately slowing down the process, he replied, “We will find out soon.”
The President indicated that if negotiations stall, Washington may escalate its approach. He remarked, “If everything doesn’t go well, we will take a different route. If things don’t progress, we might revert to Project Freedom, but it will be Project Freedom Plus, meaning additional steps will be taken alongside Project Freedom.”
