New Delhi, July 21: Amid ongoing tensions between Iran and the United States over the Hormuz Strait, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed on Tuesday that the US military misled two oil tankers, causing them to navigate unsafe routes that resulted in explosions.
The IRGC issued a statement indicating that the two tankers had been intercepted while using hazardous pathways. Following the explosions, significant fires erupted on the vessels.
According to a report by Iran’s Fars News Agency, the IRGC accused the US military of providing false information, which led the tankers to take dangerous routes.
The statement from the IRGC asserted that the “US military, which kills children,” misled both oil tankers into attempting to pass through risky areas in the southern part of the Hormuz Strait. This misdirection resulted in explosions and severe fires, forcing the tankers to halt their operations.
Fars News reported that the IRGC has once again warned international shipping companies to avoid relying on US military guidance when traversing this strategic waterway and to steer clear of perilous routes.
This incident occurred amidst escalating tensions between Tehran and Washington. Tensions have intensified following US attacks on Iran, prompting Iran to retaliate against American military bases in the region.
According to Fars News, Iran has consistently maintained that securing the Hormuz Strait is its right. This maritime route is crucial for global energy transport, as it facilitates the movement of large quantities of oil and gas.
The IRGC stated that as long as the US continues its aggressive actions in the region, the Hormuz Strait will remain closed.
The statement concluded, “It is clear that until US attacks cease, the Hormuz Strait will remain shut. Not a drop of gas or oil will exit this region, nor will a single bag of chemical fertilizers be exported.”
