Iraqi Drone Attack Targets Kuwaiti Border Posts

Kuwait, April 25: The Kuwaiti Ministry of Defense reported on Friday that explosive drones from Iraq targeted two border posts along the country’s northern frontier.

The ministry stated, “On Friday morning, two fiber-optic-controlled explosive drones attacked two centers on Kuwait’s northern land border. These drones originated from Iraq. Fortunately, there were no casualties, only material damage.”

Following the incident, relevant authorities swiftly took necessary measures to manage the situation.

On Thursday, Sheikh Hamoud Mubarak Hamoud Al-Sabah, the Director General of Civil Aviation in Kuwait, announced the reopening of airspace at Kuwait International Airport. This airspace had been closed since February 28 due to regional security concerns.

According to a report by the Kuwait Times, the Public Authority of Civil Aviation later confirmed that terminals four and five at the airport would resume operations for select destinations starting Sunday. Sheikh Hamoud noted that this decision was made in collaboration with local and international agencies to ensure flights could safely resume. This process is part of a gradual plan to fully operationalize the airport.

He also mentioned that some airport facilities had sustained damage due to attacks from Iran and associated armed groups. Investigations have been completed, and repair work is ongoing. Initially, flights will operate from select terminals, with plans to expand services as conditions improve.

Earlier in April, the Iraqi armed group Saraya Awliya Al-Dam claimed responsibility for attacks in Kuwait, Jordan, and Syria.

On April 10, the Kuwaiti military reported that seven enemy drones had been spotted in Kuwaiti airspace within 24 hours, which were intercepted by the military. A military spokesperson stated, “Iranian attacks targeted several key locations of the National Guard, resulting in injuries to some personnel. They are currently receiving treatment and are in stable condition. Additionally, there was significant material damage.”
