Tensions between Iran and the United States continue to escalate amid a series of sharp warnings exchanged by both nations. While US President Donald Trump has stated that America is prepared to deal with Iran by all means but prefers a diplomatic solution, Iran has issued stern warnings of a strong response to any attack.
On Sunday, Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei issued a clear warning to the United States, saying that if America initiates an attack, the conflict will not be limited but will escalate into a regional war. He urged the US to be prepared for such consequences.
Khamenei emphasized that Iran is not an aggressor and does not seek to attack any country. However, he warned, “If anyone attacks or troubles Iran, we will deliver a severe blow.”
This statement comes shortly after President Trump claimed that India would shift its oil imports from Iran to Venezuela, although India has not yet responded to this assertion.
Meanwhile, efforts to ease regional tensions are underway. According to Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani met on Saturday with Ali Larijani, head of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, to discuss reducing tensions in the region. Qatar reiterated its support for all initiatives aimed at peace and stability.
In Tehran, Army Chief Amir Hatami highlighted Iran’s military readiness amidst rising tensions with the US. He stated, “Today, the Islamic Republic of Iran’s army is fully prepared for defence and closely monitoring any hostile moves in the region. Our finger is on the trigger.”
Hatami also welcomed neighbouring countries’ declarations that they will not allow their territories or airspace to be used against Iran, acknowledging the shared understanding that any insecurity targeting Iran could destabilize the entire region.
He further stressed that if the opposing side is willing to resolve issues, it must engage with Iran respectfully. These warnings from Iranian leadership come at a time of growing strain between Tehran and Washington.
