Tehran, October 11 (Daily Kiran) : The Iranian Navy, part of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), reported that a super tanker was involved in a significant explosion on Saturday after allegedly violating maritime regulations. According to the IRGC, the vessel was attempting to exit the Strait of Hormuz via an unauthorized route when it struck naval mines, resulting in a powerful blast.
In a statement released on the official IRGC news platform, Sepah News, the Navy indicated that the super tanker, which was transporting crude oil, had disabled its navigation and GPS systems. Following the explosion, the ship caught fire. The Navy noted that the route taken by the tanker had already been designated as a high-risk area. They warned that any oil tanker disregarding Iran’s regulations could face similar consequences.
Just a day prior, the IRGC Navy announced it had targeted a large LPG (liquefied petroleum gas) carrier named “NV Sunshine.” This vessel was reportedly attempting to navigate through a “non-legal” path in the southern portion of the Strait.
The IRGC stated that the attack resulted in a fire in the ship’s engine room and propulsion system. They attributed rising maritime tensions and such incidents to the actions of the U.S. military.
Furthermore, the IRGC warned that enforcement actions against rule-breaking vessels would extend beyond the Strait of Hormuz. Any ship traveling through unauthorized routes would face “punishment.”
In a related development, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian remarked on Thursday that despite two attacks from the U.S., Iran would not abandon the path of dialogue. During discussions with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Turkmenbashi, he stated, “We are in talks. However, whenever we communicate with the U.S., they retaliate with attacks. Nevertheless, we will continue to pursue dialogue.”
Pezeshkian mentioned that Iran had proposed several ideas, to which the U.S. had responded with new proposals. He noted that they plan to finalize these discussions through existing mediators once the process is complete.
It is noteworthy that on February 28, Iran intensified its control over the Strait of Hormuz, restricting the safe passage of vessels linked to Israel and the U.S. This decision followed joint attacks by both countries on Iranian territory.
