Iranian Foreign Minister Calls for Accountability at BRICS Forum

New Delhi, May 14: Iranian Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araghchi has urged the BRICS forum to hold accountable those who violate the United Nations Charter. He appealed to member nations to openly condemn the blatant breaches of international regulations.

During his address at the BRICS foreign ministers’ meeting on Thursday, Araghchi highlighted that Iran has faced two “brutal and unlawful” attacks in the past year. He stated that these assaults were unjustly justified based on false allegations, while assessments from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and U.S. intelligence agencies present a different picture. According to him, Iran is being subjected to “illegal expansionism and warmongering.”

Despite heavy pressure and violence, Araghchi emphasized that the Iranian people have not compromised their freedom, sovereignty, or dignity. He reiterated, “Iran has never bowed to pressure, nor will it ever.”

In his speech, he praised the Iranian military, doctors, teachers, and security forces for risking their lives to ensure the safety of citizens. He also acknowledged the courage of war-affected families, particularly mothers and youth.

Araghchi asserted that Iran is a nation that does not break under pressure, but instead emerges stronger after every crisis. He clarified that Tehran is ready for diplomacy and dialogue but will take all necessary steps to protect its freedom and territorial integrity.

He stressed that there is no military solution to any dispute involving Iran. However, he warned that if any foreign power attacks, the Iranian armed forces are prepared to deliver a “strong and decisive response,” even though the Iranian public does not desire war.

Appreciating the BRICS forum, Araghchi described it as a symbol of a “new global order,” where the role of the Global South is continuously growing. He accused the United States of adopting a “dominant mindset,” stating that Iran’s struggle is not only for its own security but also for those nations opposing Western pressure and intervention.

Araghchi urged BRICS countries to openly condemn the alleged violations of international law by the U.S. and Israel, prevent the political misuse of international institutions, and take steps to hold accountable those who violate the United Nations Charter.

In conclusion, he stated that BRICS should play a leading role in creating a global order that is more just, balanced, and humane.
