Iran Questions Pakistans Role as Mediator Amid U.S.-Iran Tensions

Tehran, April 27: Iran and the United States are engaged in discussions aimed at reducing tensions, with Pakistan acting as a mediator for a ceasefire. This diplomatic initiative is Pakistan’s attempt to position itself as a key player in resolving a long-standing deadlock.

Through this mediation, Pakistan seeks to enhance its international image while potentially securing economic assistance in return. However, doubts about Pakistan’s credibility as a mediator have surfaced within Iran. Ibrahim Rezaei, a member of the Iranian parliament and spokesperson for the National Security and Foreign Policy Commission, has openly questioned Pakistan’s impartiality.

Rezaei expressed his concerns on the social media platform X, stating, “Pakistan is our good friend and neighbor, but it is not the right mediator for these talks and lacks the necessary credibility. They always prioritize Trump’s interests and do not voice any opposition to the Americans.”

He further elaborated, “For instance, they are not willing to inform the world that the U.S. initially accepted Pakistan’s proposal but later reneged on it. They fail to mention that the Americans made commitments regarding Lebanon and blocked assets but did not follow through. A mediator must be unbiased and should not lean towards one side.”

The apparent inclination of Pakistan towards the U.S. is evident, particularly highlighted by the recent announcement of a two-week ceasefire between the two nations.

A post from Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on X stated, “Draft – Message from the Prime Minister of Pakistan on X.” Although the post was edited, the edit history revealed that the words were not originally his, raising suspicions that the Prime Minister’s account was used to convey someone else’s message.

This incident has intensified speculation that Pakistan is mediating under U.S. influence.
