New Delhi, March 23: The excitement of the 19th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is set to kick off on March 28. The IPL is known for its explosive batting, with players frequently hitting boundaries and sixes. Here are the five batsmen who hold the record for the most sixes in a single innings.

Chris Gayle: The record for the most sixes in a single IPL innings belongs to Chris Gayle. He achieved this feat in 2013 against Pune Warriors, scoring a staggering 175 runs off 66 balls. During this innings, Gayle smashed 13 fours and 17 sixes, marking it as the highest innings in IPL history.

Brendon McCullum: In the very first match of IPL history, Brendon McCullum made headlines with his explosive batting. Playing for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), he scored an impressive 158 runs off 73 balls, hitting 13 sixes in the process.

Chris Gayle (again): In a 2012 match against Delhi Capitals, Gayle hit 13 sixes while scoring 128 runs off 62 balls. Additionally, in 2015, he played another remarkable innings against Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings), scoring 117 runs off 84 balls with 12 sixes.

AB de Villiers: Playing for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in 2016, AB de Villiers scored 129 runs off 78 balls against Gujarat Lions, hitting 12 sixes. He partnered with Virat Kohli to set a record 229-run partnership for the second wicket.

Sanath Jayasuriya: In the inaugural season of IPL, Sanath Jayasuriya played a remarkable innings against Chennai Super Kings, scoring 114 runs off 48 balls with 11 sixes. Murali Vijay also matched this feat in 2010 against Rajasthan Royals, scoring 127 runs with 11 sixes.
