IPL 2026: Rishabh Pants Batting Position Remains a Mystery, Says Coach Justin Langer

Lucknow, April 1: The Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) are set to play their first match of IPL 2026 against the Delhi Capitals (DC) at the Ekana Stadium on Wednesday. All eyes will be on LSG captain Rishabh Pant’s performance during this match.

Speculation is rife regarding Rishabh Pant’s batting position against the Delhi Capitals. However, team head coach Justin Langer did not reveal any details during the press conference.

Langer stated, “I’m not here to tell you where Rishabh Pant will bat tomorrow. I appreciate your curiosity, but if you want a direct answer, I’m not going to disclose his batting position. That would give the Delhi Capitals an opportunity to strategize against him. Like everyone else, you’ll just have to wait.”

The head coach praised Pant’s current form, saying, “Rishabh is in great shape. He’s smiling, competitive, and aggressive. You all saw that fantastic match against RCB last year. Rishabh understands competition like no other Indian player. He is under pressure, but that’s good for him. He will rise strongly, and he has better people around him to support and bring out the best in him.”

Rishabh Pant is the most expensive player in IPL history, having been bought by LSG for ₹27 crores during the IPL 2025 auction. Last season was disappointing for Pant both as a captain and a player, as LSG failed to make the playoffs. He struggled with the bat, managing only 269 runs throughout the season, with just one century to his name.

IPL 2026 poses a significant challenge for Rishabh Pant as both a player and a captain. This season is crucial not only for his IPL career but also for his limited-overs international career, as he is currently not part of India’s ODI and T20 teams.
