Patna, April 2: Land disputes in Bihar are increasingly turning violent, raising concerns about social harmony and law enforcement. A tragic incident has emerged from Rohtas district, where a man was murdered over a land division dispute. Reports indicate that the accused is the victim’s own nephew.
The incident occurred in Panduri village within the Nasiriganj police station area on Wednesday, escalating an ongoing land dispute into violence. The victim has been identified as Baijnath Singh. The area is now engulfed in fear and mourning following this event.
According to police, Baijnath Singh was heading to a nearby intersection for a betel leaf when a black car arrived with several individuals. Upon exiting the vehicle, the assailants opened fire indiscriminately.
Baijnath Singh sustained severe injuries and was rushed to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead by doctors.
Upon receiving news of the incident, police arrived at the scene and initiated an investigation. A First Information Report (FIR) has been filed against five named individuals.
The main accused, Ranjit, along with his accomplice Gopal Rai, is currently on the run. Police are actively conducting raids to apprehend both the primary suspects and other accused individuals.
The body has been sent to Sasaram Sadar Hospital for post-mortem, and further legal proceedings are underway.
SDPO Bikramganj, Sindhu Shekhar, stated that this incident is the result of a long-standing family dispute over land division. Initial investigations reveal that the victim’s sister and her son have been demanding a share in the property, leading to years of tension.
He added, “The murder was committed over a land dispute. An FIR has been registered against five individuals. The main accused is at large, and efforts are being made to apprehend him.”
