Mumbai, May 4: In the 47th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026, the Mumbai Indians (MI) won the toss and chose to bowl first against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on Monday. Surya Kumar Yadav is stepping in as captain for MI in place of Hardik Pandya, while Rohit Sharma makes his return to the playing eleven. LSG, on the other hand, is making three changes to their lineup.
Currently, the Mumbai Indians sit in ninth place on the points table, having lost seven out of nine matches. The Lucknow Super Giants are in tenth place, having lost six out of eight matches, and they are on a five-match losing streak.
After winning the toss at Wankhede Stadium, MI’s stand-in captain Surya Kumar Yadav stated, “We would like to bowl first. The pitch looks good, and there is a bit of humidity tonight. We’ve seen that the pitch improves in the second innings. Hardik is not feeling well today, so I am taking over as captain. Corbin is in for Bolt, and Rohit is back.”
Regarding MI’s performance at the bottom of the points table, Surya remarked, “You can’t ignore the fact that MI is not known for being in this position. So now we need to step up and show our best game. I can’t say this will make us more dangerous, but we have five matches left, and we will try our best to win them all.”
LSG captain Rishabh Pant commented, “Had we won the toss, we would have done the same (bowled first). It’s a good wicket for batting. You can chase any target. We have thought this through a lot. It has been a tough season for us. We have brought in players from the English team, while Mukul is out, and Raghuwanshi is in. We’ll decide about the bowling later.”
The playing eleven for Lucknow Super Giants includes: Mitchell Marsh, Aiden Markram, Rishabh Pant (Wicketkeeper/Captain), Josh Inglis, Nicholas Pooran, Akshat Raghuwanshi, Himmat Singh, Mohammad Shami, Mohsin Khan, Avesh Khan, and Prince Yadav.
The playing eleven for Mumbai Indians features: Ryan Rickelton (Wicketkeeper), Naman Dhir, Surya Kumar Yadav (Captain), Tilak Varma, Will Jacks, Raj Bawa, Corbin Bosch, Deepak Chahar, Jasprit Bumrah, AM Gajanfar, and Raghu Sharma.
